July 2017

Training for Right To Work, and the possibility of a New York State Constitutional Convention was provided by Council 66 at the 25th Biennial Convention to our Union Officers and Board Members. President Slocum trained our Executive Board as a Train The Trainer exercise and then will be passed down to our active Stewards. Our Union officers, Stewards, and trained activists will be visiting, and interacting with all members to sign new membership cards. A Fall Membership Party will be held at the Plantation Party House on Friday, October 27, 2017. The party house is located at 1875 N. Union Street in Spencerport, NY. We hope to see a big turn out. Contract negotiations are in the 5th session and have moved from half-day to full-day sessions. There has been some resolution for the Garbage Trucks at the Solid Waste Division. A new seat design and pedal for the cab is in the works, and discussions for the chassis are ongoing. We would like to welcome aboard our new Area Representative Robert Leonard. June 2017 Updates

Local 1635 Officers will be attending Afscme Strong, Right To Work training on July 10th, 2017. This training will be rolled out by the officers, to the Executive Board members, Stewards and any other unit members that would like to get involved. President Slocum encourages all unit members to participate, in order to help safeguard all members futures. Trained individuals will be visiting all City Departments to discuss Right To Work, and the New York State Constitution. At that time we will begin the implementation and signing of new membership cards for all unit members. On behalf of President Slocum and the Executive Board members, we wish all a happy and safe 4th of July.

May 2017 Updates

To our members. By now you should have received a mailing regarding the upcoming Mayoral Candidate Forum to be held on Thursday, June 8th 2017 from 5:30pm – 7:00 pm in the Forum Room at East High School (located at 1801 East Main Street, Rochester, NY 14609). Please take a moment to review the mailing and if possible, fill out the Question field on the back of the form and e-mail it to Aaron at the Council 66 office ( You can also call the office at 585-594-0828 to submit your questions if that is more convenient. This forum is very important as it allows an opportunity for our members to ask questions that matter most to us and our families. We are also asking all Members and Officers to attend so we can have a large turn out at this engagement, to show our support for our membership. Thank you very much-


Contract negotiations are scheduled for April 11th.

We met with Senior City Administration Officials to hold a triage over outstanding grievances. More dates to meet with officials will be scheduled.

Impact negotiations have been filed regarding trucks at Solid Waste. Talks continue to find a resolution.

Arbitration is being scheduled for two terminations.

Officers continue to visit various departments in order to collect feedback, discuss business and meet new employees.

There was a Membership Meeting held on March 28th, 2017. There will be a notice going out in May for the next Membership Meeting which will be held in June. Hope to see you all there.

President Slocum created an Event Committee that continually meets to discuss other event possibilities. Please feel free to make a suggestion in our comment field.

January 2017 Updates

Thank you to our membership for the 2016 Holiday Party. The turn out was great and all who attended seemed to enjoy themselves. There are photos available for viewing in the photos tab under Local 1635 Holiday Party.

Filed Impact Negotiations in Solid Waste for design of Refuse trucks to pursue vehicle options.

Filed Impact Negotiations for Part-Time unit wage scale.

Arbitration in place for a termination out of Water Department.

Continuing to work with stewards and membership to grow attendance at our membership meetings.

No date set for contract negotiations. When new Labor Relations Manager is in place, the date will be set.
The projected date is set for February 13th, 2017.

Grievance Triages shall commence in mid February after new Labor Relations Manager is in place.

Currently meeting with Stewards and Members from each department to explore ideas  for upcoming contract negotiations.

President Slocum was able to accomplish an agreement for Council 66 to absorb the cost of the Local 1635’s dues increase.

Congratulations to Matt Hardy for his appointment to the Local 1635 Executive Board Member.

An Event Committee has been assembled to discuss future parties for our Local 1635.
